Misconceptions and Untruths Debunked . . .
Detailing vs Cleaning - Many places that call themselves ‘detailers’ are really just cleaners. Being a detailer means that you are truly paying attention to all of the details, including having the professional knowledge and experience to do it right with the highest quality products. Someone that is not truly a ‘detailer’ can easily damage what they are working on. We’ve seen it and fixed it.
I take my ride to the car wash every week and I select the wax option once a month, so, I’m taking good care of my ride - This is a very common misconception! Remember, car washes are around for one and only one reason — convenience. The soaps that are used are very strong (as they have to be in order to work within just seconds) and in a short period of time will strip the wax from your ride. Selecting the wax option at the car wash will do very little to actually protect your ride. A good wash and wax must be done by hand to reach everywhere to do the job right and truly protect your ride.
I just purchased a new car but since it’s new, I don’t need to have it waxed for awhile - Another very common misconception. A new car is typically not waxed before it is delivered to you (keep in mind that it costs the dealer money to do so, plus you don’t know if a quality product was used or if it was applied correctly). If you purchased it off the lot, it may have been sitting there for months taking a beating from the weather. When it is new is the best time to have it waxed, before the sun, rain, snow, etc. have a change to deteriorate the paint further.
My car doesn’t ever need waxing, I have a ‘clearcoat’ on my paint - The clearcoat on your ride is simply clear paint. It is not a paint protectant. It must be cared for the same as any paint. The reason that the manufacturers put a clearcoat over the color coat is to give the paint more depth.
My car doesn’t ever need waxing, I purchased the ‘sealant’ package when I bought it new - Please don’t do this. Washing a car alone for years without ever using a paint cleaning polish and then applying a wax or sealant will not be enough to keep your ride looking good and in good shape. Everyday there is environmental pollution, rail dust and more that is deposited on your paint that will not come off with just washing. Left on the paint, over time, they will slowly deteriorate the looks and value of your ride.
All detailing is pretty much the same, no matter where you go, so I just go with the cheapest one - You really don’t believe this do you? There are tremendous differences between detailers!! The saying “you get what you pay for” is never more true than here. There are many, many ways to do things cheaper but only a few ways to really do things right. We know of one of the local dealers that instead of claying the vehicle to remove particulates, they wash the entire vehicle in acid. Why? It’s faster and cheaper, but it’s not very good for your ride. Yes, many detailers are cheaper, but give us a try and we believe that you will see the difference!
I can do the same thing myself that Prevette’s does - I thought long and hard how to answer this one because I don’t want to come across as arrogant or special, but the basic, honest truth is that I’m 99% sure that you can’t. It takes many years of experience and very good equipment and products to do what we do. Plus, you must be a very detail oriented person to ‘see’ what needs to be done. And let’s face it, this can be very hard physical work. However, if you do prefer to do the work yourself, we will support you 100% and provide you with the high quality products that you want. We will even show you how to do the work through personal demonstrations as well as through our formal classes.
I don’t need fabric stain protection - A question — why have your fabric cleaned and looking awesome only to have it left unprotected to all of the dirt, grime and spills to come, plus leave it prone to fading from the sun? You wouldn’t leave your paint finish unprotected. For not much more, you can have all of your ride’s fabric properly protected. It will stay looking clean and nice for a long time saving you money in re-cleaning costs and a higher resale value.
With today’s vinyl’s and leather’s, I don’t need to have any dressings or conditioners applied - There has not been a vinyl or leather made that does not need protecting against the heat, the sun and body oils. Without a high quality dressing or conditioner applied on a regular basis, your vinyl and leather will fade, crack and totally deteriorate over time. Our dressings and conditioners will keep your vinyl and leather soft, supple and full of color for years to come.
Additional coats of a wax or a sealant really don’t do anything, do they? Actually, the additional coats do offer additional protection. A second layer of wax or a sealant will give you an extra layer of protection. One thing to be aware of, you can layer wax over a sealant but never a sealant over a wax.
